Statutory Guidance for Public Bodies: Consultation Until 23 May

24 February 2025

The Scottish Government is inviting views on the draft Statutory Guidance for public bodies regarding their climate change duties. This consultation seeks to gather feedback to inform the development of new guidance designed to help public bodies implement climate change obligations effectively.

Both individual and organisational responses are welcomed to respond to ensure views are gathered from a range of users (e.g., leadership and officers). The consultation paper includes the full draft of the proposed Statutory Guidance, and the questions are designed to gather your feedback on its content.

Please respond before Friday, 23 May, to ensure your views are taken into account.

The Consultation document is available on the Scottish Government website.

Responses can be submitted using Citizen Space (preferred method).

From the Scottish Government website:

Under the 2009 Act, Scottish Ministers are required to provide public bodies with guidance, to support them in putting their climate change duties into practice. Statutory guidance was originally published in 2011 and now requires to be updated. This consultation seeks your views on new draft Statutory Guidance which has been developed for this purpose, and which will replace the 2011 guidance. Public bodies subject to the climate change duties are legally required to have regard to the statutory guidance. The guidance is technical in nature and the intended users are those bodies subject to the climate change duties.
