CLIMATE WEEK: What's the true cost of our wardrobe?

13 September 2021

13:00

Why is fast fashion so bad for the environment?

The global apparel and footwear industry produced more greenhouse gases than France, Germany and the UK combined in 2018, totalling 2.1 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions?

The fashion industry is one of the most carbon intensive sectors, reported as a top global polluter and a main driver behind deforestation. Join us on September 13th for a sustainable clothing masterclass as we delve into the real impact of our wardrobe by following the journey of the timeless combo: jeans & t-shirt. From the cotton fields, to manufacturing to transport, retail and landfill, you will find out the global impact of our clothing.

Zero Waste Scotland will then take us closer to home, as they share their research on the impact of the clothing industry in Scotland from consumer behaviour to carbon impact and waste. We’ll also hear about champions for change aiming to progress the industry through social, sustainable and circular economy business models.

Join this session and find out why clothing, in particular ‘fast fashion’, is so bad for the environment and learn practical ways to get the most out of clothes helping to save money, help the environment, and reduce emissions.
