ClimateXChange (CXC) is conducting new research on driving emission reduction through the public sector supply chain.
This research, commissioned by the Public Sector Team in the Scottish Government, seeks evidence on improving ways in which public bodies can estimate and target scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services.
It will inform the development of statutory guidance to support public bodies putting climate change duties into practice, and will provide recommendations regarding:
- Methodologies and tools for measuring, monitoring and reporting Scope 3 procurement emissions at organisational and contract level, including those used or being evaluated by public bodies.
- Practical actions public bodies can use to drive net zero ambitions through the procurement cycle.
- Exemplar climate and procurement projects from within the Scottish public sector.
The research needs to collect as much evidence as possible from public bodies to inform practical recommendations.
Some bodies may be evaluating methodologies and tools at present, so will find the research particularly topical. Research findings will be published on the ClimateXChange website after the research concludes in October 2023.
