How Can FinTech Support the Transition to Net Zero?

06 October 2021

13:00

A joint event with the University of Edinburgh Business School and Edinburgh Futures Institute

Overview

Climate FinTech is a relatively new term used to describe that part of FinTech which is targeted at creating products and services that help tackle climate change, in particular through addressing the regulatory needs of carbon reporting. Our panel will discuss how:

  • ·Technology can analyse the abundant geophysical data to help our understanding of climate exposure and impact
  • Investors can be sure that corporate net-zero ambitions are genuine and aligned with global climate goals
  • Technology can be used to enable regulators to verify the accuracy of firms’ sustainability related disclosures
  • The role of the regulator will be central to the discussion, not just in terms of the regulatory requirements (much of Climate FinTech’s needs revolve around these) but also its role in fostering innovation in a fast developing market.

Panel

  • Dr Luca Taschini, Reader in Carbon Finance, University of Edinburgh Business School (Chair)
  • Tim Rowe, Manager, Sustainable Finance, Financial Conduct Authority
  • Edmund Bosworth, Change Lead, Finance, NatWest Group
  • Murray Collins, CEO, Space Intelligence
  • Lise Pretorius, Head of Sustainability Analysis, Matter
